The 2022 Community Garden Bed Adoption

It is time to study the seed catalogues, lay-out your plans for your adopted bed. The Swillburg Neighborhood Association has the School 35 Swillburg Community Garden, located on the grounds of School 35, near the corner of Laburnum Crescent and Pinnacle. Currently over half of our 12 raised bed garden boxes have been adopted for the 2022 growing season. Our gardens are 4×8 (and a couple of 4×4 half-sized) raised bed gardens with good soil and ready to plant after 5/19/22. You are allowed to prepare and plant earlier than 5/20/22, however, the garden may need some clean-up and additional soil and compost, which would be supplied by you.

On 5/19/22  a group of volunteers will prepare the remaining beds for planting, if you can wait. The gardener’s responsibility is any early planting preparation of the bed, planting, maintenance (weeding, watering, etc.) and finally HARVESTING and eating your own bounty! Not much is better than the taste of a tomato fresh from the plant, still warm from the sunshine! You will likely meet some neighbors, exchange tips and ideas, celebrate your successes and lament those less successful ideas, Fall clean-up is also the responsibility of each gardener.

If you have an interest in adopting a bed at our School 35 Swillburg Community Garden, please email me at joann.oneill8@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you soon!
